Friday, June 2 - Jump Rope for Heart

Thursday, June 15 - Grade one Field Trip to Docs Town and SS Park.

Spelling - numbers - one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.

Field Trip - June 15th. We are so excited to have a wonderful field trip. We are looking for parents to join us. Two parent helpers would be great but more would be welcome. We will leave the school at 9:15 and arrive at Doc's Town around 9:30. We will have a guided tour of Doc's Town. At 11:00 we will walk to the Southside (Riverside) Park. The kids will play and then we will eat lunch. In the afternoon we will break into groups and do some fun activities.

Jump Rope for Heart - You can donate online. Go to the Jump Rope for Heart website and search for our school. At school we will spend the afternoon doing fun games with a skipping rope!

Math - We completed a test to see how our students are doing against the rest of the students in our school division. Students did well on the test but there were a few things that we need to work on. Please continue math fluency with your child. That means students should be able to quickly recall all addition and subtraction facts from 1 to 20. Practice whenever you have a moment; driving in the car, getting supper reading, in the bath tub. Make a contest with a sibling or parent for who can shout out the answer first. Please practice, these are the foundations that your child will need for math success!

Reading - We want students to be at a Level G in June. Check your child's reading bag for the level they are at. If your student has a book with no letter on it, it means they are at or above a level G. If your child has a letter from A to F then we need extra support.

Science - We learned about plants. We set a hula hoop on the ground and picked all the different kinds of plants within the circle. Some hoops had a lot of different plants. We learned that some plants have deep roots and some have shallow spider web roots. Some plants are creepers, some have long stems, some have many stems from one root. Some grow big leaves and some grow small leaves. Many hoops had the same plants but there were some unique plants as well.

We are coming to the end of Grade One! I don't know how it happened. I have loved growing and learning with your child and I am excited to make our last month a great month!
