Tuesday, December 6th - St. Nicholas Day - Wear red and green

Wednesday, December 7th - Hot Lunch - Hamburger soup and bun. Food Drive bags are due.

Thursday, December 8th - Reconciliation for older grades

Friday, December 9th - mini dress rehearsal for concert

Wednesday, December 14th - Christmas Concert 5:30 to 6:30

Friday, December 16th - Classroom Christmas Party


Advent Welcome to the second week of advent, the second candle represents peace. December gets very busy and this candle reminds us to find peace in what we are doing. Slow down, appreciate the things that makes Christmas fun for our children. Drink hot chocolate, go for a walk, light a candle, bake.

Spirit Day and St. Nicholas day We will have a few spirit days this month. St. Nicholas day is a day that is celebrated by European Christians. Some families leave a coin in their child's shoe on this day, or put a small gift under a their pillow. Have your child wear red and green on this day! We will read stories about St. Nicholas and learn about Christmas around the world this week. 

The last week of school has three spirit days. Monday we will wear our ugly Christmas sweaters, Tuesday, another red and green day, and Wednesday will be pyjama day.

Christmas books Please send these back each day for another child to enjoy. I already have some that I've only seen once.

Sight words Please keep the sight words in the take home reading bag. When your child has mastered a sight word booklet, write a note to me and we will send home the next level. I will use the booklets for a new student as they come back.

Sock Gift Exchange Please wrap and send a fun pair of Christmas socks for a gift exchange by December 13th. We will exchange gifts on the last day of school and have a movie in the afternoon.

Classroom Christmas Party We will do our class Christmas party on December 16th in the afternoon. Parents are invited to join us for lunch and our party. Watch for a hot lunch Subway form.


More Information:

Movie Theatre We are going to the movie theatre on the last day of school. A note when home regarding purchasing snacks for watching the movie. Another note will go home tomorrow with more information. 

Candy Canes Candy canes are available to purchase for $.50 each. They are delivered to your child in the classroom. They are a fundraiser and they are due tomorrow!

Subway Lunch Please send forms back tomorrow! We are having a grade one Subway lunch next Friday along with a little party. Parents are welcome to join us.

Sock Exchange We are doing a little gift exchange next Friday during our party! 

Home Visits Please read the note and consider participating.

Week of May 29th

Wednesday, May 31 - School assembly Friday, June 2 - Jump Rope for Heart Thursday, June 15 - Grade one Field Trip to Docs Town and SS Park. Spelling - numbers - one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Field Trip - June 15th. We are so excited to have a wonderful field trip. We are looking for parents to join us. Two parent helpers would be great but more would be welcome. We will leave the school at 9:15 and arrive at Doc's Town around 9:30. We will have a guided tour of Doc's Town. At 11:00 we will walk to the Southside (Riverside) Park. The kids will play and then we will eat lunch. In the afternoon we will break into groups and do some fun activities.  Jump Rope for Heart - You can donate online. Go to the Jump Rope for Heart website and search for our school. Week of January 23rd

 Star student Wynter Blue show and tell Friday, January 27 Family literacy day, muffin morning 8:15 to 8:45. Dress up like a book character or wear clothes with print. Monday, January 30th   No school, teacher prep day. Spelling skill - short I   big, bin, dill, dig, fill, fin, fit, him, his, kit, kiss, pin, rip, sit, tip, tin, win, will, zip,  I was very impressed with our short e spelling test! Thank you for practicing with your child. During our agenda writing we are always talking about spelling rules and we've learned a lot. Have you heard of the FLOSS rule? Short vowel words that end in f, l, s, and z usually have a double letter: buff, stuff, stiff, ball, call, all, hall, bell, tell, shell, bill, hill, full, bull, doll, mess, kiss, boss, etc. It's English so there are always exceptions but it works most of the time.
