Week of September 25

  Thursday, September 29th - Library Day Friday, September 30th  No School, Teacher Convention Monday, October 3rd  - Orange Shirt Day Printing - I am sending home our printing booklets as we complete them. I am seeing good printing. Please remind your child to start their letters from the top, that seems to be the biggest mistake that kids have.  Journals - We wrote in our journals and I am so impressed! Everyone was excited to sound out words and draw lovely pictures. September practice calendar - Please send the calendar back when you complete it. You are welcome to complete tasks in any order. I am loving the tasks that I've seen, thank you for sending them to me. You do not need to bring the tasks to me, you can just send the calendar but either way. I think the calendar is a good way to practice things that will promote the love of reading and writing. On Monday, October 3rd, we are celebrating Orange Shirt day at our school. Tuesday, September 20th - Picture Day! Thursday, September 22nd - Arts Council Presentation. pm. Friday, September 23rd -  School Terry Fox Walk Saturday, September 22nd  - Moving in Faith Walk at All Saints, drop in, 1 - 3pm. Teacher Commissioning Mass 5pm, Christ the Redeemer Parish. Sunday, September 23rd  - First day of Autumn. About your child survey:  Thank you for completing my little survey about your child. I will resend it to families who have not filled it in yet. I find that kids at this age have neat interests that leads to a lot of knowledge about things like dinosaurs or cars or farm machinery or math. I am always looking for ways that kids can share that knowledge. Thank you also for those of you who are able to come and read with our students. Week of September 12th

 We are in our second week of school and already learning lots!  Each day students have written in our agendas and I am very pleased with how well students are printing. I have no expectations about what printing should look like at the beginning of grade one - good printing is something we work on all year long.  Printing  I follow the Printing Without Tears   guide to letter formation. We will start with C based lowercase letters. We have started by learning that the letter C starts at the top, touches the roof (top line) goes around in a big arc, touches the floor (bottom line) and comes up on the right. Other C based letters are o, a, d, g, and q . You will notice that all of these letters start like a c and continue to form the letter. Phonics  Please work with your child on all of the letter sounds. Most students know their letters but not all know what sounds the letters make.
