All Saints Grade One

  Happy Valentines Day! Star Student Bentyn Tuesday, February 14th - Valentines Day, Wear pink, red and white! Thursday, February 16th - Mass, 10:30 in the gym. Green shares Friday, February 17th - Pink Shirt Day for bullying awareness. Pancake breakfast for students. Next Week - No school! Our hundredth day of school was a blast! We counted to 100 many times! We counted Froot Loops, blocks, pasta, popsicle sticks and anything we could find. We are 100 days smarter too! We talked about the things we know now that we didn't know at the beginning of grade one. We can read, write, spell, add, count. The list goes on. We also talked about what school looked like 100 years ago. I didn't feel old until I realized that my Grandma would have been in grade 1 about 95 years ago! But I think the biggest changes have happened in the past 10 years. We talked about chalk boards, one room schools, riding a horse to school and clothing differences. Star Student Brylee Monday, February 6 - Hat Day Tuesday, February 7 - PJ Day Wednesday, February 8 - Wacky Hair Day Thursday, February 9th - Teacher / Student Swap Day, Show and share - Green Friday, February 10th - Dress like you're 100, 100th day of school. Spelling - Short u  Our short o test was a success! Most students spelled the three letter o words correctly, there were mistakes on our longer words but we know what to work towards.  Short u words include: bug, bun, but, bus, cup, cut, duck, dust, fun, gum, hug, jug, luck, mud, mug, nut, pup, puff, rush, rust, rug, run, us, up, such, tub, yuck.  I may chose words from this list or from our phonics book. The first 6 or 7 will be three letter words and the last 3 or 4 will be longer words, four or five letters. Consider the last few words to be bonus words. There are lots of short u words that are not spelled with a single u! Done, none, blood, son, among. English is tuff! (See what I did there? P...
