Hi parents! It was great meeting all of you for parent teacher interviews, thank you for taking the time to come to the school and chat about your child. If you missed booking a meeting, please contact me and we and we can schedule something.

Christmas Concert: Our class is putting together a little nativity scene that we will record on video. For it we need costumes. If you have anything that we could use for shepherds, kings, angels or anything else please send it with your child. Shepherds and Joseph usually have robes and a tea towel or cloth on the head. Mary would have a blue head cover and white robe. I need some garland for halos. The sooner the better! Thank you!

Attendance: Please contact the school if your child will be absent. You may also record absences in Edsby or you may email me. Our front office staff are spending a lot of time calling parents of absent children. Please help our front office staff by calling the school and leaving a message before 8:30am.

Take Home Reading: Please read with your child every day and return the books each day. We are working very hard at school on phonics and phonological awareness and reading each day one on one with your child is key for reading growth. I am noticing nice improvements in reading too!

Printing: We do a lot of printing at school and we work very hard on proper letter formation. If your child is printing at home, please help by expecting proper letter formation. We want to form good habits in printing.

As we complete our printing booklets they are being sent home to stay. If booklets are coming home incomplete it is due to absences. Please complete the booklet at home and let me know if your child needs more practice.

Math: Easy things to do at home include skip counting, adding and subtracting. Ask your child to count and add how many forks and knives are needed at the supper table. Count street lights or stop signs on the way to hockey practice. Add how many stop signs and yield signs are all together. Count vowels in a long word or your name. Keep it simple and help build math connections.

Saint Team: Each class and each student is assigned to a Saint Team for school spirit. We are St. Paul and our colour is green. Students are asked to wear green on spirit days.

St. Paul - Ram - St. Paul (Saul) can be compared to a lost lamb who punished Jesus's people. Saul did not realize his wrongdoing. After an encounter with Jesus, he soon discovered his true self. We can consider his conversion to St Paul as a lost lamb who had been found by his shepherd.


Youth Group information from Christ the Redeemer.

November 23We will welcome the younger youth (Grades K-3) for a saint inspired evening.  We invite the youth to come dressed up as their favorite saint, and would love it if they could teach us a few things about that saint (even if they don't come dressed up).  This isn't mandatory, but would be fun to share what saints we know and love.  Beyond that, we will celebrate St. Francis of Assisi with a birdhouse project and a bit of a teaching about him.  We have the birdhouses already, and the youth will decorate them.  This will run from 6:30-8pm and due to the birdhouses already purchased, I only have space for 21 children.November 30

This night is for the older kids (grades 4-6).  Once again, we would love to see them come dressed up as their favorite saint with a bit of knowledge behind who that saint is and why they admire that saint.  Afterwards, we will have a saints project where we will split the children into teams, provide them with a saint and have them create something using the resources in our closets to symbolize that saint.  When we are done, the rest of the youth will attempt to guess who that saint is.  If time permits, we will also have a saints inspired game show for the kids to participate in.

Week of May 29th

Wednesday, May 31 - School assembly Friday, June 2 - Jump Rope for Heart Thursday, June 15 - Grade one Field Trip to Docs Town and SS Park. Spelling - numbers - one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Field Trip - June 15th. We are so excited to have a wonderful field trip. We are looking for parents to join us. Two parent helpers would be great but more would be welcome. We will leave the school at 9:15 and arrive at Doc's Town around 9:30. We will have a guided tour of Doc's Town. At 11:00 we will walk to the Southside (Riverside) Park. The kids will play and then we will eat lunch. In the afternoon we will break into groups and do some fun activities.  Jump Rope for Heart - You can donate online. Go to the Jump Rope for Heart website and search for our school. Monday, January 30th   No school, teacher prep day. Spelling skill - short I   big, bin, dill, dig, fill, fin, fit, him, his, kit, kiss, pin, rip, sit, tip, tin, win, will, zip,  I was very impressed with our short e spelling test! Thank you for practicing with your child. During our agenda writing we are always talking about spelling rules and we've learned a lot. Have you heard of the FLOSS rule? Short vowel words that end in f, l, s, and z usually have a double letter: buff, stuff, stiff, ball, call, all, hall, bell, tell, shell, bill, hill, full, bull, doll, mess, kiss, boss, etc. It's English so there are always exceptions but it works most of the time.
